Ile-Saint-Louis & Berthillon Ice Cream

The second part of our day consisted of exploring the smaller of Paris' islands - Île-Saint-Louis. This island's claim to fame is Berthillon, ice creamery. It is the home to many (very) rich people, some charming shops, and a restaurant called, in English, Our Ancestors the Gauls. Now, this restaurant was closed, but when I spied animal furs, helmets, and swords hanging in the windows, I was very intrigued. We later learned that an experience at this restaurant consists of communal seating, hearty caveman-like dishes, and a raucous, loud atmosphere. Sounds like the perfect antidote once I've tired of the classic, refined French cafe scene.

I highly recommend getting some Berthillon ice cream. The main store is often closed (because French), but tons of restaurants in Paris serve their goods. I got a cone with THREE flavors. Vanilla, Coconut, and Melon. I should have just had melon because it was so freaking delicious! ...Have I mentioned that I am now addicted to melon? France has turned me into a melon freak. Their melons are very sweet, and all their produce is so much better than stuff at US grocery stores. You've heard the rumors, and I've come to tell you that they're pretty much true. Most food is indeed better here.

I also have an outfit for you bloggers out there!

It was an extremely stupid idea to wear these shoes for a day full of walking. I regret wearing them so much right now. Don't try to be fancy when you have a lot of walking to do! It's torture!

Pumped up Kicks

I've been looking for the perfect flat shoes for a while now, and I am pleased to say that I have finally found them! I can't imagine how I've live my whole entire life without owning a pair of genuinely comfortable shoes - it's literally like walking on a pillow, or a cloud... a heavenly, beautiful cloud.

I paid a pretty petty for these beauties, but I have to admit, it was SO worth it. I'm beginning to embrace the idea of investing in quality pieces. They last longer, they feel better, and they elevate your outfit instantly. I could not be happier with my purchases today.

Redo: Red Pants and Vintage Top

Okay guys - I feel like I wear these red pants CONSTANTLY, but the more I wear them, the more they mold to my body, and the more comfortably they fit! Plus, who knows how long (or short) this colored pants trend will last? I want to take full advantage of the trend before it's considered to be old news.
Photobucket
I featured this same outfit a couple months ago, but I feel this time around I've improved. Plus, I've gained many new followers since then, who may not have seen the original post anyway. So, why is this outfit better, you ask? I'll tell ya:

{ONE}
I caved, and bought some heels, despite the fact that for as long as I can remember, I've held an unspoken vow to never wear heels, except at formal events. This is partially because they can be painful, and partially because I feel self-conscious and conspicuous when I wear them. This self-consciousness is merely a result of my overactive imagination convincing me that everyone is staring at my feet thinking how ridiculous they look, when really they don't give a crap. Sometimes I just don't understand my brain.
Photobucket
In fact, I look about 10 pounds lighter when I put on these heels. WHO KNEW?! Combine that with really good posture, and I'll never have to go to the gym again. I take that back... exercising is healthy, and I gotta be healthy!

{TWO}
Better photography. I changed my normal physical location, which changed the direction of the light, which actually makes a world of difference. Light is paramount to photography. Crappy light = crappy photo. If you're a frugal person like me, use cheap white poster boards as light reflectors.

{THREE}
More liberated posing. The more I take pictures of myself, the more comfortable I become, and I'm starting to learn what angles and poses are the most flattering, or at least more fun.

Color Palette - Sea Breeze

Color Palette time! I love these soft blues, browns, and taupes, so serene. I actually have this image for sale in a set of two in my Etsy shop! I thought it would make a great color palette.

Doesn't that turquoise dress look really fuzzy and comfortable?! And that Anthropologie throw is calling my name.

Floral, Brown & Dusty Rose

Today was my second day of the new semester, and I hereby declare it a success! Tuesdays are my longest day, so I opted (like always) for comfortable and practical tan flats, my old pair of extremely faded black pants, which some argue to be a shade of denim blue, a floral chiffon top, a super-soft rose-colored scarf, and a faux leather jacket to keep me warm in the crisp morning air as I traversed the mile from my car to my classroom.

I also tried out a new nail design, rose pink with burgundy half-circles at the base. I’m not sure how I feel about them, and I'm contemplating just starting all over again.
